Hollands in the first season to investigate their daughter
Barbara's disappearance the previous year.

In the second season, Murray helps Nancy and
Jonathan with taking down Hawkins Lab for the
cause of barbara's death. He concluded the events
in Hawkins were evidence of a "full-scale Russian invasion" due to finding leads
about a mysterious girl with a shaved head (Eleven)
In the third season, Murray helps Hopper and
Joyce figure out why the Russian Soviets are
opening another gate underneath Starcourt Mall and becomes friends with
Alexei.
In season four, Murray helps Joyce figure out
where Hopper is in Alaska. He and Joyce call
the number on the paper Joyce got from the mail and the messager told them
to go to Yuri's Fish N Fly. When they find out where Hopper is, Murray pretends
to be Yuri in order to get in the prison and break Hopper out.
