Stranger Things

What is Stranger Things?

Stranger Things is ultimately a study in love and relationships in all their messy brokenness,
and an exploration of the things that make us human and differentiate us from the forces of evil, portrayed
in the series as coming from a Dantesque place of utter coldness. Overview. Stranger Things is set in the fictional
rural town of Hawkins, Indiana, in the 1980s. The nearby Hawkins National Laboratory ostensibly performs
scientific research for the United States Department of Energy but secretly experiments with the paranormal and
supernatural, sometimes with human test subjects. Stranger Things primarily follows four 12 year old friends who
could be ripped straight from a Stephen King novel-They curse, they bike around, they play D&D, and they don't
let things like potential monsters stop them from doing what they have to do. That sense of adventure helps when
one of them dissappears and the others set out to find him, eventually with the help of a young girl they encounter
who has some serious telekinetic powers.

What was the inspiration for Stranger Things?

Ross Duffer-The exact moment might be surprising , but there's this Denis Villeneuve film called Prisoners, with Jake Gyllenhaal
and Hugh Jackman. We loved it and were excited by the idea, but we wanted to spend more time with the characters. We said,
"What if we did a longerform kidnapping story, but there's a child and a monster in it as well?". Matt Duffer-It was an old idea
we had with a government conspiracy and a monster. We were super excited, but we had no experience in television, and we had spent
10 years trying to build a career in film. That week or maybe the week after, we got a call out of the blue asking if we wanted to work on
M. Night Shyamalan's Wayward Pines. I don't believe in fate, but I said, "This is too weird-We can learn about TV when we have a TV idea."
We took the money from that to take time off to write Stranger Things.

Who are the creators of Stranger Things?

Stranger Things was created by the Duffer Brothers (Matt and Ross Duffer). They created the show on July 15, 2016 and it quickly became
one of Netflix's most popular television series ever. They started filming the first season in November 2015
